Vapor Technologies Inc. claims it has a new first true black advanced coating applied by low temperature arc-vapor deposition.
“Vapor Tech engineers have integrated a proprietary optical absorption process into our proven line of workhorse thin-film deposition systems to deliver the darkest, most durable and pure black cosmetic finish to our expanding color palette,” claims Vapor Tech President David Humenik.
The Longmont, Colo,. company said it has been difficult to produce a true, neutral black using physical vapor deposition technology. Vapor Tech said its process gives stable and repeatable colorfast coatings in a low temperature system. The coating adheres to electroplated plastics and other materials without damaging the part.
Vapor Tech also says the coating's high density, excellent adherence and ability to withstand drastic temperature fluctuations reduces the possibility of delamination, cracking and peeling. The coating is thin and thus preserves part dimensions. Possible applications include consumer electronics, countertop appliances, bath and kitchen fixtures and auto interior and exterior accents.
