MACEDONIA, OHIO (Dec. 22, 12:20 p.m. ET) — Custom injection molder Design Molded Plastics has purchased an adjacent building to help accommodate business being repatriated from China.
“We are being presented with projects that customers are sourcing back to the U.S. from China,” stated Design Molded President and co-owner Jay Honsaker in a news release. “This new facility will allow us to continue to support the needs of our current customers, as well as providing the needed space to develop and launch future projects.”
Design Molded bought a 48,000-square-foot facility that will help it expand its research and development capabilities, provide additional space for light assembly and storage, and to house engineering activities. The extra space builds on the firm's original 62,000-square-foot headquarters.
Honsaker said the new space will create an undisclosed number of job openings at the company.
Design Molded, which was established in 1985, supplies products to medical, automotive, protective equipment, home appliance and electronic markets. It also counts an off-site 55,000 square foot warehouse and a tool room among its services.
Design Molded's website states the Macedonia company has about 120 employees and 28 injection presses. Secondary operations include six-axis machining, ultrasonic welding and decorating.
Company officials were unavailable to provide more detail on the expansion.
