MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO (Dec. 27, 9:45 a.m. ET) — The Canadian Plastics Industry Association has held an art contest among students for inclusion in an anti-litter themed calendar.
CPIA, based in Mississauga, Ontario, has printed and distributed about 200 copies of the calendar to students, government officials and the educational community, said CPIA spokeswoman Darlene Gray.
More than 1,000 students from kindergarten to grade eight participated in the contest and the 13 winners each won several as a prize.
The calendar discourages littering and promotes related environmental causes. An electronic version can be accessed through www.plastics.ca/anti-litter.
“All of the students are very much aware of the fact that we need to stop littering, as is demonstrated in their very convincing submissions,” stated CPIA vice president Cathy Cirko in a news release.
Gray said the calendar contest supplements the association's ongoing communication program to more than 44,000 teachers across Canada with its “Plastics in Class Newsletter.”
