TROY, MICH. (Jan. 5, 12:55 p.m. ET) — Precision injection molder and contract manufacturer Florida Production Engineering Inc. has acquired Erie, Pa.-based thermoplastic injection molder Omni Plastics Inc. in order to expand its capabilities to serve the healthcare and medical markets.
Omni Plastics specializes in the molding and assembly of high-precision, close-tolerance parts for the medical, pharmaceutical, diagnostic and electronic industries.
“Omni is primarily in medical and also does some electronics,” said Larry Jutte, president and chief of operating officer of automotive components manufacturer Ernie Green Industries Inc., which is the parent company of Troy-based FPE. “They do a lot of very tight tolerance small molded components” which is a capability that he says FPE did not have.
Jutte said the addition of Omni would be “incremental” in terms of sales, and that medical accounts for 25 percent of the business of FPE. He said FPE currently does medical molding and manufacturing at its plants in Ormond Beach, Fla., and in Asheboro, N.C., which has a Class 100,000 and a Class 10,000 clean room.
Omni — which has a 44,000 square foot white room and 34 employees — will operate as a subsidiary of FPE within the division of FPE Life Sciences LLC.
With the acquisition of Omni, FPE now has eight manufacturing plants with injection molding machines ranging in size of 100-to-3000 tons and does custom injection molding for the medical, transportation, energy and industrial markets. In addition to Erie, Ormond Beach and Asheboro, FPE has plants in Nicholasville, Ky.; Stratford, Ontario in Canada, and the Ohio cities of Cleveland, Circleville and New Madison.
FPE is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ernie Green Industries, which is headquartered in Beavercreek, Ohio, outside of Dayton.
