Troy, Mich.-based precision injection molder and contract manufacturer Florida Production Engineering Inc. has acquired Erie, Pa.-based thermoplastic injection molder Omni Plastics Inc. to expand in the health-care and medical markets.
Omni Plastics molds and assembles high-precision, close-tolerance parts for the medical, pharmaceutical, diagnostics and electronics industries.
“Omni is primarily in medical and also does some electronics,” said Larry Jutte, president and chief operating officer of automotive components manufacturer Ernie Green Industries Inc., which is the parent company of FPE. “They do a lot of very tight-tolerance, small molded components,” which is a capability FPE did not have, he added.
Jutte said the addition of Omni will bring “incremental” increases in sales.
Medical accounts for 25 percent of FPE's business. Jutte said FPE currently does medical molding at plants in Ormond Beach, Fla., and Asheboro, N.C.
The Asheboro plant has a Class 100,000 and a Class 10,000 clean room.
Omni, which has a 44,000-square-foot white room and 34 employees, will operate as a subsidiary of FPE within the division of FPE Life Sciences LLC.
With the acquisition of Omni, FPE now has eight plants with injection molding machines of 100-3,000 tons and does custom injection molding for the medical, transportation, energy and industrial markets. In addition to Erie, Ormond Beach and Asheboro, FPE has plants in Nicholasville, Ky.; Stratford, Ontario; and the Ohio cities of Cleveland, Circleville and New Madison.
FPE is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ernie Green Industries, which is based in Beavercreek, Ohio, near Dayton.
