Specialty cleaning products company W.M. Barr & Co. Inc. has acquired antimicrobial products maker Microban International Ltd.
Microban products are used in plastics and other materials in a range of consumer products, commercial and food-service equipment, building products, health-care items and textiles. The firm is based in Huntersville, N.C.
W.M. Barr makes cleaners for consumer, commercial and industrial markets in home improvement, household, automotive and industrial sectors. The Memphis, Tenn., firm said it is a leader in quaternary ammonium-based antimicrobials for textiles and footwear. It is an employee-owned business established in 1946.
“We're very excited about the opportunity to help grow and expand the Microban brand into new channels and categories, as well as the complementary synergies for the Microban and Aegis businesses in the textile category,” W.M. Barr CEO Rich Loomis said in a news release.
“The transaction is an important step forward in the growth of Microban, creating new market opportunities for both companies,” said Microban CEO David Meyers in a news release.
He said there will be no disruptions to business as a result of the Dec. 30 transaction. Microban will continue to be based in North Carolina and will operate as an independent subsidiary under its current management team, Meyers said.
