Milliken & Co. and LanGang Petrochemical, a subsidiary of PetroChina, have co-developed a polypropylene resin for thin-wall injection molding as an alternative to disposable EPS food packaging.
The new 55 MFR reactor grade resin, H9018 uses Milliken's Hyperform HPN-68L nucleating agent. In addition to offering higher heat resistance versus EPS to enable microwaving, H9018 offers excellent organoleptic properties, high transparency and enables manufacturers to process PP at higher speeds, Milliken said in a release.
“The use of polypropylene for food packaging has become more common in China as a result of increasing consumer concerns about environmental protection and food safety,” said Hu Qing, senior engineer, LanGang Petrochemical.
Unlike conventional nucleators, Milliken said, Hyperform allows for faster and more consistent processing and offers superior isotropic shrinkage, leading to increased productivity and reduced warpage. Hyperform also disperses well in high-melt flow PP.
