Kraiburg TPE GmbH & Co. KG says its Hipex thermoplastic elastomer allows simplified production of logo plates for automotive engine covers.
Hipex resists high temperatures, oils and greases, and retains elastic properties with a hardness of 70 Shore A. Mues Products & Moulds Gmbh of Kolbermoor, Germany, worked with Kraiburg to design a process that overmolds Hipex over a polyamide hard component.
Attaching the TPE and polyamide components by conventional means is a two-step assembly process. Typically, rubber bearings are fitted on the hard component manually. Now a robot can remove the molded polyamide component and place it in another cavity where it is overmolded with Hipex. Quality is improved while cycle time and error rate are reduced in the new method, according to Kraiburg of Waldkraiburg, Germany.
