Dual Spiral Systems Inc. of Hamilton, Ontario, has supplied a 10-layer, 10-extruder blown film die to a customer in Russia.
The customer, which Dual Spiral Systems did not identify, said the customer is producing nect-generation nanocomposite barrier films for ready-made meals on the 10-layer line. Nanocomposites can increase shelf life, the company said.
The plastic film is replacing the old process of using metal foil laminated to coextruded film. Now, with the absence of the foil layer, the packaged means can be microwaved in the package.
End users of the film in Russia had previously imported barrier films from other countries.
The DSS dies employ later splitting, multiplying the number of layers that are produced.
