The MuCell microcellular foaming process recently made news, with two separate deals.
MuCell Extrusion LLC, which is owned by Zotefoams plc, has licensed Dow Chemical Co.'s patent portfolio for flat sheet extrusion of polyolefin resins. The deal, announced March 13, gives MuCell Extrusion and its customers exclusive rights to the patents for a wide variety of applications.
In a related announcement, MuCell Extrusion signed a license agreement with EDV Packaging Solutions SA of Barcelona, Spain, which will use MuCell Extrusion's expanded range of technology to produced foamed polypropylene barrier sheets for food packaging throughout Europe.
“These materials will make a difference in reducing packaging weight and therefore environmental impact,” said EDV Packaging President Jordi Pursals.
“Our customers will now produce cleaner foams which allow for significantly lower densities and tighter cell structure versus chemical foaming alternatives,” said MuCell Extrusion President Mark Lindenfelzer.
MuCell Extrusion is based in Woburn, Mass. Zotefoams is based in Croydon, England.
