Americhem Inc. has introduced antimicrobial masterbatches that inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria in plastics and synthetic fibers.
nShield is effective at low levels against a range of microorganisms in various applications, including automotive interiors, filters and synthetic turf. The Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, firm can customize the product to specific needs.
“Developed in response to hygiene concerns, antimicrobial agents have already proven effective in enhancing the freshness of end products across a wide array of industries,” explains Americhem director of business development Vaman Kulkarni.
nShield masterbatches become an integral part of the plastic article or fiber for durable antimicrobial properties. The agents also resist discoloration and degradation caused by bacteria for longer lasting aesthetic appeal of the article. nShield has desirable processing properties and high thermal stability, claims Americhem.
