Shell decision to target Pennsylvania for a petrochemicals plant is featured in this week's Material Insights video. Also this week, in a deal between two bioplastics leaders, Metabolix Inc., has licensed a patent covering bio-based PLA resin to NatureWorks LLC. The patent known as the 199 patent covers production of PLA blended with polybutylene succinic polymers and similar materials, officials with Cambridge, Mass.-based Metabolix said. Finally, this week we report that RTP Co. has acquired a line of conductive compounds from Clariant International Ltd. for an undisclosed price. Winona, Minn.-based RTP will move manufacturing equipment from a Clariant site in Ahrensburg, Germany, to a plant in Ladenburg, Germany, that RTP opened last year.
