Velocity Equipment Solutions LLC has boosted its capabilities by acquiring toolmaker Molinaro Tool & Die Inc., and by opening a new hub facility in Santa Fe Springs, Calif., to better serve the West Coast blow molding market.
Molinaro makes injection and blow molds and tooling. The firm operated in New Castle, Pa., also Velocity's home.
Molinaro's tool and die operations will be melded into Velocity's packaging equipment manufacturing facilities and Molinaro employees have been offered positions at Velocity, according to a March 15 news release from Velocity.
No financial terms were disclosed.
The acquisition gives Molinaro's customers access to tooling production within a “state-of-the-art” facility and access to products the company could not offer on its own, Velocity said.
Molinaro opened in 1986 and owned several patents for bottle caps in the dairy industry.
The West Coast sales and distribution center, near Los Angeles, will allow Velocity to expand its shipping capabilities and meet client demands faster.
With the new hub, Velocity can ship parts from 4 a.m. PST to 8 p.m. EST to any of its customers, said Adam Brunke, client services manager.
Previously, Velocity could ship from its headquarters in New Castle, Pa., and from a warehouse in the United Kingdom. The company operates a 24-hour parts and service line, but when clients needed last-minute or emergency parts, the limited shipping schedule caused problems, Brunke said by telephone.
The new hub also will attract new clients. Other companies that once had distribution centers on the West Coast have since exited the region, leaving a hole, he said.
“I think we'll have a real convenience, a time saver for our customers,” he added.
Miguel Garcia will be the Western Regional sales representative.
Velocity was created in 2010 when an investment group, formed by the former management team of Portola Packaging Inc.'s equipment division and the Mistequay Group Ltd., bought out Portola's equipment division, including Portola Blow Mold Technologies.
The company manufactures capping equipment, as well as secondary machinery used in the production of plastic caps, and blow molding machinery and parts. It also does rebuilds and upgrades.
