Bemis Co. Inc is expanding operations at its polyethylene packaging division headquarters in Terre Haute, Ind.
The company will spend $10.6 million to purchase and install new printing press equipment and consolidate some of its PE operations to the 1 million-square-foot plant.
The expansion should create 40 new jobs by 2013, according to a news release. The company currently employs 778 full-time workers at the plant.
Based on its plan for job creation, Bemis was offered up to $150,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $150,000 in training grants from the Indiana Economic Development Corp. The Terre Haute City Council also approved a five-year personal property tax abatement for the company.
Bemis started its expansion March 1 and will complete the project by the end of the year, according to the company's abatement program application.
The expansion is part a consolidation plan announced last year. The company announced plans to close PE packaging plants in Flemington, N.J. and Longview, Texas, and move operations to its other locations.
Based in Neenah, Wis., Bemis is North America's largest film and sheet maker. The company operates 80 plants in 12 countries and had 2011 net sales of $5.32 billion.
