MIDLAND, MICH. (March 26, 12:20 p.m. ET) — Dow Chemical Co. said March 23 that it was declaring force majeure on all methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) products manufactured at its US sites at Freeport and La Porte, Texas.
On March 19, Dow's Freeport MDI operations experienced mechanical failure of a piece of equipment unique to the manufacture of MDI and essential for production, a company spokesperson told Urethanes Technology International, in an email.
Dow said this unforeseen event has “significantly impacted our ability to manufacture MDI product in North America and meet our supply commitments."
“We are working swiftly and safely to return to production as soon as possible,” the company said.
