ATLANTA (April 2, 2:50 p.m. ET) — J.M. Huber Corp. has expanded its fire retardant business by acquiring the specialty flame retardant business of Almatis Inc. in Bauxite, Ark., Atlanta-based Huber announced April 2.
Huber entered into a tolling arrangement with Almatis to sell, market and provide technical support for Almatis' specialty hydrates more than a year ago and the firms therefore expect a smooth ownership transition.
“The addition of the Almatis specialty hydrate business located in Bauxite is another exciting step in the growth of Huber's fire retardant additive business, as we continue to strengthen our portfolio of non-halogen flame retardant offerings,” stated Huber Engineered Materials vice president and general manager Jerry Bertram in a news release.
Other flame retardants supplied by Huber include alumina trihydrate, magnesium hydroxide and molybdate-based additives.
