Penn Color Inc., the supplier of colorants, has developed the ChromaSort M system that speeds color selection for plastics, using technology from X-Rite Inc.
X-Rite displayed the ChromaSort M at its NPE2012 booth. Penn Color also exhibited at NPE in Orlando, Fla.
Designers and engineers can use pocket-sized spectrophotometers at their workstations or remote locations to measure the color of samples, then accurately match the results against an internal memory of around 5,000 colors of polyolefin resins. (Penn Color plans to add color libraries for PET and other resins).
Instead of sending samples to Penn Color for measurement, or making guesses from printed fan decks, customers now can use X-Rite's Capsure instrument to measure colors and order sample chips from Penn Color in Doylestown, Pa. Delivery takes only a day or two, much quicker than the traditional method.
X-Rite's Capsure instrument can determine colors on a wide range of “inspiration” objects, including plastic components, labels and magazine illustrations, textiles and fabrics.
X-Rite is based in Grand Rapids, Mich.
