Clariant Masterbatchews and Topas Advanced Polymers Inc. have developed glass-like colors for medical devices and packaging.
Clariant contributes its Mevopur color concentrate and Topas adds its cyclic olefin copolymer to the technology.
“Color Is a factor of growing importance in medical and pharmaceutical applications,” notes Carmella Fitzgibbons, head of Clariant Masterbatches medical and pharmaceutical segment in North America. Medical products, like other consumer products, are increasingly relying on color and other visual elements for aesthetics and function.
Topas COC resin offers high shine in thick sections and unlike some competitors has a non-reactive surface. Clariant has been working with Topas to develop bright, clear colors, says Barbara Canale, healthcare market development manager for Topas which has a U.S. office in Florence, Ky.
Clariant Masterbatches is based in Charlotte, N.C..
