Houston-based Quanex Building Products Corp. showed its proprietary RollTrusion process, which combines roll-formed metal and thermoplastic extrusion into a single part, during NPE2012.
Quanex uses the technology to make custom applications such as mull trims and storm seals for window and door manufacturers, drawer slides for tool chest manufacturers and ceiling grids for clean rooms.
RollTrusion feeds roll-formed metal into a special die, then extrudes plastic around it. Quanex, which invented the process, has six RollTrusion lines.
Quanex Building Products owns vinyl window extruder Mikron Industries Inc. and Edgetech I.G. Inc., a maker of spacer systems for insulated glass.
