Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. will invest $375 million over the next few years to build sustainable agriculture and improve income of small farmers in sub-Saharan Africa.
Jalgaon-based Jain pioneered drip irrigation tubing for small farmers in India. The firm announced May 15 that it will partner with African nations — including Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Ghana, Cote d'lvoire and Nigeria — to help supply irrigation systems for small farmers in the region.
The move directly affects more than 250,000 farmer families, according to Jain.
In separate news, Jain said it plans to sell water valves and fittings from Rodgau, Germany-based Talis Management Holdings GmbH.
The deal will add Talis products including hydraulic control valves, butterfly valves, gate valves and fittings to its micro-irrigation product line.
