TORONTO (June 12, 9:35 a.m. ET) — The Canadian Plastics Industry Association has named Paul Cohen its 2012 leader of the year. Since 1966, the association has been giving the annual award to people who made important contributions to the industry as well as played big roles in other societal organizations.
Cohen is president of film producer W. Ralston (Canada) Inc. of Montreal, which runs six plants in Canada and the U.S., and employs more than 450.
Paul received his award May 31 in Toronto. He was recognized for his philanthropic activities, participating in many industry boards, leading recycling efforts.
CPIA of Mississauga, Ontario, gave its plastics innovation award to Mohini Sain, professor and director of the Centre for BioComposites and BioMaterials at the University of Toronto.
The plastics stewardship award went to Stuart Clark, president and CEO of Simpas Inc. of Mississauga, for his firm's leadership in plastics recycling technologies.
Nuform Building Technologies Inc. of Woodbridge, Ontario, won the recycled plastics award for its innovative use of recycled plastics in building materials.
