RTP Co. says its glow-in-the-dark masterbatch helps medics save lives in trauma shears.
“This was a very specific request, we hadn't done a glow-in-the-dark product before, said Steve KLeitsch, co-owner of Icon Injection Molding of Phoenix, Ariz.
Icon molds the Rip Shears Ripper that allows medics to quickly slice through multiple layers of clothing, equipment and body armor to access and treat wound sites. The Ripper is based on an RTP 200 series glass reinforced nylon 66 that provides the stiffness to allow the blade to stay on track and flow through fabric cleanly.
RTP provides a phosphorescent color masterbatch mixed with the nylon compound during molding. The material has an afterglow effect that lasts for up to eight hours, far longer than conventional glow-in-the-dark technologies.
“Having this glow-in-the-dark effect at our disposal is a great addition to our overall offering,” says Kleitsch in a news release.
RTP Co. is based in Winona, Minn.
