PVC elastomers are touted as possible replacements of other elastomers in insulation and jacketing for charger cables on electric vehicles.
Teknor Apex Co. says two of its Flexalloy compounds are rated for maximum continuous operating temperature of 105° C. They are based on ultra-high molecular weight resins and provide toughness, abrasion resistance and resistance to compression set, says Mike Patel, wire and cable industry manager for Teknor Apex's vinyl division.
“Teknor Apex developed these two new Flexalloy products especially to meet the requirements of US Type EVE for the high production volumes and rugged end use performance posed by electric vehicle charger cable,” Patel noted in a news release. “They provide cost-effective alternatives to premium-priced elastomers such as TPUs,”
