A new permanent antistatic additive for polar plastics is being touted by Antistatic Industries of Del Inc. of Monroe Township, N.J.
Terionics is a non-toxic additive that acts throughout the part, including its exterior, the company claims. It is a transparent product that readily accepts colorants while not interfering with strength properties. It melts at polar plastic temperatures and in thermoplastic polyurethane master batches. Masterbatch levels of the additive range from 8 to 10 percent by weight.
Terionics exhibits a wide range of surface and volume resistivity. It is well suited to polymers such as nylons, polyurethane, flexible PVC, thermoplastic elastomers, acetals and acrylic.
By adding Terionics to a masterbatch, the static prevention resins prevent dust from being attracted to molded parts, as well as small fines or leftover plastic particles in or around the mold, according to the company.
