ESSEN, GERMANY (July 25, 12:30 p.m. ET) — Specialty chemicals manufacturer Evonik Industries AG will increase production of its TAC and TAICROS crosslinking boosters thanks to the planned expansion of production capacities in Wesseling, Germany, at the end of 2013.
Triallyl cyanurate (TAC) and triallyl isocyanurate (TAICROS) are used, among other things, in photovoltaics. Crosslinking additives improve the quality of the encapsulation films that protect the photovoltaic cells, particularly in regard to aging and color stability, while increasing the transparency of the films, says Evonik.
The company says the expansion, which will cost in the low double-digit million euro range, will allow it to respond to increasing market demand.
Essen-based Evonik has annual sales of almost $19 billion. The firm employs more than 33,000 worldwide.
