Organizers of biennial trade show Brasilplast are changing its name and expanding the exhibition area for the show, in an effort to solidify its status as the premier industry event in Latin America.
Now named Feiplastic, Brazilian trade show organizer Alcantara Machado spent the past year surveying attendees of past Brasilplast shows to get a sense of how to better promote the event. Global fair organizer Reed Exhibitions' purchase of Alcantara Machado earlier this year also played a role in the name change.
Reed removed “Brazil” from the São Paulo event's name and replaced it with part of the Portuguese word “feira,” or “fair,” to indicate the show's status in all of Latin America, said spokesman Antonio Alves. The show is sponsored in part by the Brazilian plastics association, Abiplast.
The show will take place May 20-24 at Anhembi Center, with exhibition space expanded from 840,000 square feet to 915,000 square feet. Those dates conflict with Chinaplas, May 20-23 in Guangzhou. However, organizers expect Feiplastic to draw 1,400 domestic and international exhibitors and at least 70,000 visitors, with investments topping 5 million reais ($2.48 million).
“Brazil is becoming stronger and stronger in Latin America, opening doors to other markets,” said Abiplast President Jose Ricardo Roriz.
