Borealis AG has debuted a new polypropylene it says aids sustainability efforts through ability to down gauge, cut energy use by 5 percent and reduce cycle time by up to 10 percent.
BorPure RF490MO is a random copolymer PP aimed at transparent and non-opaque colored closures for packaging. The Vienna, Austria, firm says the new PP features a high stiffness and impact resistance balance with high transparency and optical appeal.
Borealis claims the 20 to 30 percent higher stiffness levels and dimensional color stability are achieved with its nucleation technology. The PP offers lower processing temperature, about 20 percent lower in the barrel section. This allows faster crystallization and lower cycle time. As well, taste and odor properties are very low. High stiffness promises down gauging of up to 10 percent.
