Recycled nylon brings environmental benefits to auto parts, according to a study led by resins supplier Rhodia of Lyon, France.
French auto parts major Valeo Group injection molds a fan and shroud assembly for automotive OEM PSA Peugeot Citroen of Paris. Rhodia, Valeo and Peugeot carried out a life-cycle analysis on the components molded from recycled Technyl PA compared with a standard Technyl grade and had their results reviewed by independent consultant Bio Intelligence Service of Paris.
The analysis took into account the whole value chain of the recycled nylon's use. Rhodia claims the study showed recycled Technyl PA reduced environmental impact in seven areas by 9 to 28 percent. The benefits derive solely from how Rhodia makes the recycled resin. The product can be used in an identical way to standard Technyl PA.
