MILWAUKEE (Aug. 21, 1:55 p.m. ET) — Marketing communications firm Trefoil Group is tackling the problem of recruiting skilled workers with its own Talent Acquisition Marketing program.
The Milwaukee-based firm said manufacturers are having difficulty finding qualified employees, even with unemployment numbers remaining high. Trefoil's Talent Acquisitions Marketing program helps clients with:
• Sharing a strong story about why people should want to work for you,
• Demonstrating leadership and growth through public relations efforts,
• Understanding and targeting talented people through social media and microsites,
• Cultivating partnerships with educational and industry organizations.
“There's a lot more that manufacturers in particular can do to reach and appeal to talented young people,” principal and founder Mary Scheibel said.
Trefoil — formerly Scheibel Halaska — is the Wisconsin partner of IPREX, a global communications enterprise owned by an alliance of 74 partner firms.
In an Aug. 21 phone interview, Scheibel added that hiring in the current job market is "a complex equation," but that her firm "is focused on attracting the interest of young people in manufacturing careers."
Trefoil already has worked with machinery maker Milacron LLC and injection molder Dickten Masch Plastics LLC on websites to attract potential employees. The Milacron job recruitment site attracted more than 100 unique online visitors even before it was made public. It then attracted more than 300 visitors on the day it officially was launched.
Many manufacturers “are focused on the day-to-day to keep their businesses running,” Scheibel said. “Recruiting isn't really their expertise.”
She added that her firm has seen recent examples of college graduates returning to school for technical training in order to get jobs. But regardless of their background, most potential employees use the internet to find jobs.
“Job seekers are really online now, so the importance of a web site is critical,” Scheibel said.
