ST. PAUL, MINN. (Aug. 22, 12:10 p.m. ET) — Interplastic Corp. — a maker of thermoset resins and specialty chemicals — has acquired polymer-based product technology from paint and coatings producer Valspar Corp. for an undisclosed price.
The deal includes technologies, formulations and processing data for two lines of polymer-based gel coats and one line of polymer-based coatings. The products are used in the marine industry and other markets.
The acquisition does not include any land, property or equipment, a spokesperson with St. Paul, Minn.-based Interplastic said.
Interplastic's thermoset resins business makes and distributes unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester, gel coats and colorants for the composites and cast polymer industries. Its molding products unit makes sheet molding composites and other thermoset molding materials.
In July, Interplastic's North American Composites unit bought a 41,000 square-foot building in Mishawaka, Ind., to better serve customers in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.
