Color specialist Pantone LLC has announced the D65 Lighting Indicator Stickers, which make it easy for designers and manufacturers to determine if colors are being viewed under the right lighting conditions, for accurate color evaluation, specification and color matching.
D65 is used to evaluate the color of plastics, textiles, paints and other manufactured products. The stickers have two light-sensitive patches that change color under different lighting conditions. In the proper lighting conditions, the two patches will appear to match. If lighting conditions do not fall within the D65 range, the two patches will appear different—and the contrast becomes greater the farther the light source is from the correct range.
“Quality of light has a critical impact on color appearance, and making a color decision under the wrong lighting conditions can lead to costly and time-consuming mistakes,” said Giovani Marra, Pantone's director of corporate marketing.
Pantone, which is owned by X-Rite Inc., is based in Carlstadt, N.J.
