Zeon Corp. plans to expand usage of its Zeonex cyclo-olefin polymers into smart phone and tablet camera lenses.
The Tokyo company says it has developed Zeonex K26R, a highly transparent thermoplastic specially developed for smart phones and tablets. Such devices are small and require camera lenses that are thinner and capable of producing a high quality image for optimal display on the devices' screens.
Zeonex K26R meets the lens demands and is easily molded. It allows reduction of lens thickness by about 50 percent compared to conventional lenses, claims Zeon in a news release.
Zeonex is widely used in mobile phone camera lenses because of its low birefringence and fluorescence, high transparency in visible light and moldability. Other markets for the cyclo-olefinics include a range of medical devices and light-emitting diodes.
