KONSTANZ, GERMANY (Sept. 12, 11:45 a.m. ET) — Worldwide demand for biocides, which are used to prevent microbe damage in plastics, will hit $7.3 billion by 2019, according to Ceresana Research.
The market research firm says that North America is the major market, accounting for 42 percent of global sales, followed by Western Europe and Asia Pacific.
However, demand will shift over the next eight year, as Asia continues to develop.
In 2011, the greatest revenues were generated from biocides based on halogen compounds, followed by metallic and organosulfur compounds.
