Clopay Plastic Products Co. has completed a 62,000-square-foot, $12.3 million expansion at its Augusta, Ky., facility.
The expansion will allow the plastic film and sheet manufacturer to retain 290 full-time jobs at the plant, which is now about 337,000 square feet.
According to local reports, the expansion has been in the works for more than a year.
Company officials were not immediately available for comment.
Clopay, headquartered in Mason, Ohio, manufactures specialty films and laminates for personal-care, health-care and industrial uses.
The company employs about 1,500 at manufacturing facilities in Augusta, Nashville, Tenn.; Germany; Brazil; China and Turkey.
It reported sales of $563 million for its fiscal year ended Sept. 30, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company is No. 13 in the most recent Plastics News ranking of North American film and sheet manufacturers.
Clopay is a wholly owned subsidiary of publicly held New York-based Griffon Corp.
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority approved a $500,000 economic development bond grant to the city of Augusta for the benefit of Clopay. Bracken County, Ky., officials also approved a $200,000 grant and city officials approved a $190,000 grant.
