Altuglas International has signed a marketing agreement with NatureWorks LLC to deliver a range of newly formulated, bio-based, high performance alloys based on polymethyl methacrylate and Ingeo biopolymers.
The new materials are being marketed by Altuglas as Plexiglas/Altuglas Rnew biopolymer alloys. Initial targeted applications will be durable goods demanding high performance, durability and clarity.
The firms said their development agreement stems from the high level of interest shown in such alloys at the National Plastics Exhibition held in Orland, Fla., in April.
The alloys offer a smaller carbon footprint as well as flexibility to customize impact and chemical resistance. Other benefits are low processing temperatures, high melt flow, aesthetics, scratch resistance and color acceptance.
Altuglas's U.S. office is in King of Prussia, Pa. It is a subsidiary of Arkema SA of Colombes, France. NatureWorks' headquarters is in Minnetonka, Minn.
