Bayer MaterialScience LLC says its Hygard Sentinel polycarbonate sheet laminates have been certified by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security.
The Hygard laminates address the need for heightened security in government buildings and diplomatic missions. The sheet also allows attractive exterior finishes at a limited cost.
The Hygard system "offers beautiful, yet practical, design possibilities with high light-transmission properties, as well as good thermal management levels." Said Roger Rumer, marketing leader for public sector business for Pittsburgh-based Bayer.
Hygard BL80 and BL80-CG8 successfully defended against a 15-minute simulated forced entry assault. The latter laminate also met the Department of State's high-level ballistics resistance requirements.
Bayer introduced Hygard last year. The system can be added to existing buildings as an alternative to building new ones or relocating.
