BONN, GERMANY -- Kautex Maschinenbau GmbH, the Bonn-based builder of extrusion blow molding machinery, is preparing to open its new larger plant in Shunde, China, that makes shuttle and long-stroke machines.
Kautex has built machines in China since the late 1990s, said company spokesman Michael Thielen. The new plant is a few minutes' drive away from the old site.
About 115 people work at the business.
"In many respects, our old site no longer met our requirements. Also, its outward appearance did not project the quality of our products," said Gouliang Du, president of Shunde Kautex Plastics Technology.
Thielen said the old plant could build 30 blow molding machines annually. The new factory can turn out 40-50 machines per year.
Thielen said the Shunde plant makes machines for packaging, for products like jerry cans and bottles for detergent and shampoo. The China operation builds blow molders for the domestic market and export, he said.
