CHICAGO — The Boeing 787 Dreamliner – the so-called plastic plane because of its composites hull – could be back in the air very soon.
The aerospace giant has almost completed all its tests on the beleaguered aircraft and its overheating battery and if the results pass U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's scrutiny the way will be clear for the 787 to retake to the skies.
"We are all working toward returning the 787 fleet to service in the most expeditious manner possible, but we are being thorough and won't shortcut the test and certification process," the company said in a statement.
New orders for the innovative aircraft have stalled, admitted Boeing, although the company has a backlog of orders for 841 787s, all of which will be built with an amended battery compartment with battery gas venting.
