WILMINGTON, DEL. — From juice bottles that bounce instead of break to fruit cups that can live in a lunchbox, it's not hard to see the importance of packaging in daily life.
DuPont Co. is recognizing those packaging breakthroughs, and giving the industry the chance to vote on which one has had the most impact, as part of its 25th annual DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation Awards.
The company divided the breakthroughs into six groups – hot fill, retort and aseptic techniques, microwave revolution, case ready/modified atmosphere packaging/value added packaging, recycled content and re-closeable packaging – culled from hundreds of past DuPont award winners.
The industry can vote online for which breakthrough has most transformed our lives. Voting will close May 10. DuPont will announce the winning breakthrough during its DuPont Awards, set for May 16 in Wilmington, Del., and on the voting site.
"From year to year, this program has honored tremendous achievements," said Shanna Moore, DuPont Packaging and Industrial Polymers global director of sustainability and leader of the packaging awards program, in a news release. "When you have the luxury of viewing all 25 years, you can truly appreciate the impact that packaging has had on our lives."
