ORLANDO, FLA. -- The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries' Scrap Theft Alert system, an online system that helps connect scrap companies with law enforcement, is set to be upgraded amid spiking cases of material theft from scrap yards and other processors.
The planned changes were announced at a meeting of ISRI's Materials Theft Task Force at the organization's annual convention in Orlando, Fla., according to ISRI's blog.
"(ISRI) has agreed to spend some considerable funds to upgrade Scrap Theft Alert, and I think you're going to like what you see," Materials Theft Task Force chair Chip Koplin reportedly said.
Scrap Theft Alert has more than 16,000 registered users and has resulted in 219 arrests or warrants since it was launched.
