MEERANE, GERMANY — Magna International Inc. has opened an injection molding plant in Meerane that will make exterior plastic parts for Volkswagen.
The 160,000-square-foot plant employs 140, and is starting production with the front and rear bumpers for VW's Golf VII. In late 2014 it will start production of rocker panels for the next generation of the VW Passat, according to Aurora, Ontario-based Magna.
In addition to molding, the plant will also handle painting and assembly.
Magna is the largest injection molder in North America, according to Plastics News' most recent survey.
