IRVING, TEXAS — The Plastics Pipe Institute Inc. recently honored four individual members and five member-company projects.
Winners were recognized for exceptional service and significant achievements involving the use of polyethylene pipe. Presented during the May 5-8 annual membership meeting in St. Pete Beach, Fla., the award winners are:
Building & Construction Division: Uponor Inc. of Apple Valley, Minn., was honored for San Francisco's Pier 15 Exploratorium project. The project includes a PEX-based radiant heating and cooling system. It is now a net-zero energy and a net-zero carbon, 330,000-square-foot facility with LEED-Gold certification.
Conduit Division: Endot Industries Inc. of Rockaway, N.J., was selected for the Beebe Wind Farm Project. The company used high density PE conduit to house power cables, speeding the installation process, achieving cost savings, and providing long life without the need for cathodic protection.
Corrugated Plastic Pipe Division: Prinsco Inc. of Willmar, Minn., was honored for the Hillcrest Knoll Park Project, which used more than 2,500 feet of 60-inch diameter corrugated HDPE pipe to construct a retention system capable of storing 85,000 cubic feet of water. The project converted a swampy flooded area in St. Paul, Minn., into a park and public green space.
Energy Piping Systems Division: FlexSteel Pipeline Technologies Inc. of Houston, was selected for a high-pressure water transfer line used to bring water to a drilling site in north central Pennsylvania. The 8-inch diameter, flexible, steel-reinforced PE pipe was used instead of steel pipe, reducing cost and speeding installation.
Municipal & Industrial Division: Performance Pipe Inc., a Plano, Texas-based division of Chevron Phillips Chemical Co., and ISCO Industries of Louisville, Ky., were selected for the San Antonio Water System project. Originally designed to use steel and ductile iron pipe, the water pipeline extension used 328 truckloads of PE 4710 pipe that totaled 11 million pounds. The 122,000-foot project is the largest HDPE water pipe project in North America, according to PPI.
The PPI Members of the Year are:
