A high-barrier, recyclable resin is claimed by Plantic Technologies Ltd of Altona, Austrialia.
Plantic said the new material combines PET and biodegradable film to give a packaging material with very high gas barrier and it's made from 60 percent renewable materials.
“Plantic eco Plastic R, unlike other barrier packaging formats, can be fully recycled with the PET recovered in the traditional recycling streams with Plantic's barrier material dissolving and biodegrading in the process,” explains Plantic CEO Brendan Morris in a news release. “Unlike traditional barrier materials which are difficult to recycle due to the complete mix of plastics used, Plantic eco Plastics provides performance and sustainability/recyclability in a truly unique way.”
Plantic's main manufacturing is done in Australia but it also does production in Germany and has sales offices in the United States.
