Compatibility and stability in living organisms has landed a new application for polyetherether ketone from Evonik Corp.
Vestakeep resin is used in the Xiphos Alif, a spinal implant developed by DiFusion Technologies Inc. of Georgetown, Texas. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently gave the PEEK part approval for an interbody fusion device.
"Evonik's Vestakeep PEEK's strength and ductility proved to be critical for the FDA approval and the excellent test results Xiphos ALIF received," notes DiFusion Technologies managing director Derrick Johns in a news release.
"This marks the second product line DiFusion is using Vestakeep PEEK for and demonstrates the strong relationships necessary for success in this space," states Sanjeev Taneja, vice president of Evonik's high temperature polymers business.
Evonik touts its polymer benefits include sterilization resistance, stiffness and ductility while meeting stringent biological demands.
Evonik has an office in Parsippany, N.J.
