The Society of Plastics Engineers — fresh off a successful conference in the Middle East — is organizing its first events in China later this year.
The Newtown, Conn.-based trade association is planning a pair of concurrent conferences on Dec. 11-12 in Shanghai, at the Marriott City Centre hotel:
- SPE Plastics Injection Molding Conference in China 2013 has the tagline “Shaping the Future of Injection Molding Through Game-Changing Innovation.”
- SPE Medical Plastics Conference in China 2013 is subtitled “Global Advances in Plastics for Medical Devices and Packaging.”
Both are two-day events, according SPE CEO Willem de Vos, but are likely to have a common plenary session, as well as joint meals and networking. And both currently are accepting paper submissions until July 15.
For the injection molding conference, SPE is looking for presentations on molding and processing, material developments, part design and geometry, and innovative case studies. For the medical plastics event, it's seeking papers on advanced manufacturing and on medical, biomedical, drug-delivery and one-time-use products, among other topics.
Meantime, SPE on May 26-28 co-organized, in conjunction with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (an industrial development group in Oman), the Polyolefin Plastics Arabia Conference. The group said it drew more than 100 conference attendees and two dozen workshop participants.
