Two hundred invited guests from 25 countries journeyed to Lossburg, Germany, to celebrate 50 years of powder injection molding expertise at Arburg GmbH + Co. KG., on June 5-6.
The centerpiece was an international conference with 16 presentations by PIM experts from Europe, Asia and North America.
Attendees also toured the Arburg Customer Center, where seven presses molded parts such as stainless steel tubes for orthodontic braces, zirconium oxide drill bits for the dental sector, precision hard-metal milling cutters with interior threads and intricate molded wheels for a miniature Märklin locomotive. Arburg also demonstrated ceramic injection molding by turning out triangular ceramic cups and a key chain with two moving parts. In 1963, a German company, Feldmühle AG (today CeramTec Group), molded the first ceramic part on an Allrounder 200 AS press: a pigtail thread guide for the textile industry.
The company's U.S. operation, Arburg Inc., is in Newington, Conn.
