AKRON, OHIO — PolyOne Corp.'s decision to close six of the plants it acquired from Spartech Corp. is featured in this week's Material Insights video.
PolyOne confirmed that it will close plastic sheet plants in Indiana and Illinois; compounds plant in Pennsylvania and Missouri; and related plants in Wisconsin and Louisiana. Those plants employed a total of about 250. Production and some equipment will be moved to other PolyOne sites. PolyOne CEO Stephen Newlin said the closings will provide customers with and improved cost structure and improved product quality.
Elevance Renewable Sciences Inc.'s opening of a biofeedstocks plant in Indonesia also is featured in this week's video. The plant has annual production of almost 400 million pounds of feedstocks that can be used in specialty nylons, polyester and other plastics. Elevance is operating the plant through a joint venture with Asian agribusiness firm Wilmar International.
The video wraps up with news that materials supplier Ravago SA has entered resin production through its purchase of the expandable polystyrene business of Styron LLC. The sale includes an EPS plant in Germany and the Sconapor brand name. Ravago operates plastic compounding and resin distribution businesses worldwide and has annual sales of about $7.5 billion.
