ANTIGO, WIS. —Film and bag producer, distributor and machinery maker Volm Cos. has completed an expansion of one of its Antigo plants with the addition of a new blown film extrusion line.
The new line will supply film to three manufacturing sites in Antigo, where Volm's headquarters is based, the firm said in a news release. Volm said the project will reduce its overall carbon footprint by reducing freight and storage of materials formerly brought in from out-of-state and overseas.
Before the line was installed, the company added 36,880 square feet at its Volm's Fresh Tech Products facility.
“This additional capacity will give us a more competitive edge in the industry,” said Volm Vice President of manufacturing and corporate operations Michael Hunter in a news release. “We will be able to pull business away from competing markets overseas, and bring it back to Wisconsin. The new line also will make us more vertically integrated in some of our core product lines.”
Volm said the expansion should create an additional 25 jobs over the next year and a half to two years. The company currently employs about 220 full time in the Antigo operations.
Volm's businesses encompass food packaging, custom packaging, technical meshes, erosion control and weighing and packaging equipment. In addition to 16 plants and distribution centers in North America, it has machinery building capacity in the Netherlands.
