JBI Inc. has announced it will participate in Crayola's ColorCycle program in an effort to reuse or recycling discarded markers.
Niagara Falls, N.Y.-based JBI takes waste plastics and turns them back to a liquid in a gasification process.
The ColorCycle program will collect discarded markers from participating schools throughout the country, and was launched after the urging of an elementary school in California.
In addition to using the discarded markers in its program, JBI will also receive waste and overruns from Crayola as additional feedstock.
"Partnering with Crayola is a unique opportunity for our company, and we look forward to a relationship that reduces the amount of plastic entering landfills, while also creating cleaner, lower-sulphur fuels," said John Bordynuik, chief of technology and founder of JBI.
