MCG BioComposites LLC has developed tooling to make a new generation of plant markers injection molded from bioplastics.
MCG of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said the new BioMarker products are made of MCG's proprietary blend of corn cob fiber and recycled plastic from post-consumer or post-industrial sources. The firm claims it received the Green Thumb Award from the Direct Gardening Association in 2012 for the BioMarker.
MCG is working with Green Dot Holdings LLC of Cottonwood Falls, Kan., on the project. Green Dot bought bioplastics producer MGP Ingredients of Atchison, Kas., early this year. MGP makes bioplastics in Onaga, Kan. MCG markets to industrial, agriculture, and lawn and garden sectors.
MCG was awarded a grant in May 2012 by the Iowa Demonstration Fund to develop new bioplastics tooling and to launch a Web site.
